Information reaching THE BASE suggests there is a positive development for a group of newly trained teachers in Ghana who have been in service for more than eight months without salary.
According to our sources, the release of staff IDs has begun. In the Central Region, such teachers have had their “STAFF IDs issued just this evening. For others outside that region, the IDs are expected to be released in the coming days.
The issuance of these staff IDs is significant because it clears a major administrative hurdle for the payment of their salaries and arrears. The Education Minister had earlier assured newly trained teachers that once their IDs are ready, salary payment would follow.
It is also 100% assured that all arrears owed will be paid, including allowances. This means that eligible teachers will receive:
-
All outstanding salaries for the months they have served without pay
-
Professional allowances such as the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance
-
Research allowances (for those deemed qualified to receive them)
This assurance draws on the government’s recent announcement that it has given approval for the absorption into the payroll of over 6,200 teachers who had worked for several months without pay.
What this means for the teachers
For those teachers in the Central Region whose staff IDs have just been released tonight, it means the “waiting game” may be nearly over. With the IDs processed, payroll clearing and arrears payment can move into the final phase.
For teachers in other regions, the expectation is that once their IDs are issued in the coming days, the same process will apply. You should prepare by ensuring your bank details and personal records are up to date, and check with your regional and district offices for confirmation or modification of details.
What to do next
Confirm that your personal details, bank account, and posting information are correct.
-
Stay alert for official circulars or announcements from GES about payments
-
If you believe you are eligible for CPD or research allowances, remain calm as payment would be made
-
Maintain patience but remain proactive: with the ID issued, the process is moving, now it is about moving it over the finish line.
We will continue to follow this story and provide updates on when payments are made and how the process unfolds across all regions. Stay tuned to THE BASE for the latest.
